Role: Clinical Guide Non-Executive Director / Trustee 

Reports to: The Board & Chairman 

Responsibilities: Advising and guidance on the strategic aspect of delivering high-quality clinical services to children and families. 

Purpose of the role: 

A non-executive director is detached from day-to-day operations and valued for their objective insight. This allows a unique perspective on corporate governance, risk management, succession planning & high-standard clinical services and the successful running of the Charity Company. Driving the organisation’s vision to deliver Early Intervention to children across Scotland. 

General & Key Responsibilities: 

● Consultations around clinical decisions 

● Guidance on developing shared formulations 

● Offering insights on how to enhance the charity’s services to complement current NHS provision 

● Critically evaluating processes, clinical inputs and outputs 

Skills required for this Role: 

● Degree in Clinical Psychology. 

● Professionally qualified and registered with HCPC 

● Must have a good understanding of behaviour science, positive psychology and experience in Early Intervention and interest in Trauma-informed PBS 

● Influencer, motivator who leads by example 

● Strategically and operationally aware.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

Role: Non-Executive Finance Director-Treasurer
Reports to: Board of Directors

About this Role:

The Treasurer is a vital volunteer position within Nurture Steps. The primary responsibility is to oversee and provide strategic guidance on the organisation’s financial management, ensuring transparency, compliance, and effective use of funds to support the charity’s mission. Previous experience in a board position is preferred. 

General & Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide financial oversight and strategic direction as a member of the Board.
  • Ensure proper management of charity funds and expenditures, complying with financial regulations.
  • Review and advise on budgets and financial forecasts regularly and as needed.
  • Support the preparation and oversight of financial reports, including annual accounts and funding reports.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting financial records for funding applications.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and monitor funding placements.
  • Advise the Board on financial risks and opportunities.
  • Maintain accountability for invoicing, expenses, and the financial aspects of ongoing projects.

Skills Required for This Role:

  • Strong understanding of financial systems, charity finance, budgeting, and compliance.
  • Ability to strategically guide the financial planning of a growing charity.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet creation and management.
  • Attention to detail, especially regarding the monitoring of charity funds and expenditures.
  • Experience in funding applications and reporting is advantageous.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with the Board and the Managing Director.

Support:

Before starting your role, you will receive comprehensive support and guidance from the Board and the Managing Director. This includes an induction to familiarise yourself with the charity’s financial status and goals.

Role: Non-Executive Fundraising Director / Trustees

Responsibilities: Fundraising Strategy Development

Reports to: The Board of Directors

Purpose of the role: The successful candidate is responsible for guiding and supporting the Funding and Fundraising strategy and collaborating with other board members

Commitment: 6hrs Maximum of 3 years, 6 hrs a month, drives the company forward and champions for Nurture Steps, Contributes to board meetings concerning the funding of  Nurture Steps and supports management with implementing new procedures, following the code and guidance of fundraising practice and fundraising regulator as per OSCR. 

Location: mostly online, with meetings in person, also expected to attend events in Cupar, around Dundee and Fife

Overview of the role:

Role: Volunteer Playworker
Reports to: CEO/Behavioural consultant

Purpose of the Role

Support Nurture Steps in delivering 1-to-1 Early Intervention sessions for children with additional support needs and their families, support during Step into Play sessions, help children build skills and relationships

General & Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and record data during sessions.
  • Build rapport with children and their families, fostering positive relationships.
  • Write detailed session notes to track progress.
  • Prepare the environment for your sessions.
  • Prepare / Create resources to support children’s development and engagement.
  • Work with families under supervision to deliver fun, interactive and effective sessions.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: At least one year in a supervised role with children and families.
  • Interest in Early Intervention, Additional Support Needs and Psychology.
  • Ambitious about gaining qualifications and advancing your skills.

Commitment and Requirements

  • PVG Check: Desired but will be supported to apply.
  • Time Commitment: Minimum of 3 hours per week in person + 1 hr group session online
  • Supervision:
    • 1 hour of group supervision per month (minimum/online).
    • Work with one up to two families per week on low-level behavioural challenges.
    • Increased supervision and adjusted responsibilities if moderate behavioural challenges arise.

Support

  • Weekly meetings with a consultant for guidance and feedback.
  • Additional meetings when new strategies are introduced or challenges arise.

Role: Volunteer Social Media Coordinator Reports to: Marketing Director

Responsibilities: Social Media post creation and interaction

Purpose of the role: 

Responsible for the creation, management and public engagement over social media platforms.

General & Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating and scheduling content
  • Use of established branding
  • Engagement with service users and consultants over social media platforms
  • Collaborating with planning and strategic tasks based on service delivery.

Role: Fundraising Projects & Event Support

Responsibilities: Fundraising strategy development

Reports to: The Manager

Purpose of the role: The successful candidate is responsible for preparing and developing fundraising packages & projects for future implementation and, supporting the Funding and Fundraising strategy, collaborating with other board members

Commitment: 4 hrs a week 

Location: mostly online, with meetings in person in Cupar 

Overview of the role: 

Person interested in development of fundraising projects and activities to bring vital finances and unrestricted reserves to the charity. This role is focused on developing packs and planning future fundraising events.
